Top 10 Marijuana Strains for the Holidays

  • Last modified: December 15, 2020

Happy holidays! With Thanksgiving behind us, it’s time to welcome the scents that the colder winter days ahead of invite: the energizing pine of a Christmas tree, the warm spices and pepper that enhance the flavor of chilis and stews, the aroma of baked goods, the earthiness of burning wood. Plus, it’s always nice to have something to reduce a strong desire to strangle that lunatic uncle on the family holiday video call.

To help you navigate the holiday season, whether it’s to manage your relatives, enhance your holiday activities, relax, or spark creativity, here are a few strains to pair with the holiday season.

Critical Jack

A crossbreed of Jack Herer and Critical Mass, this uber-cerebral sativa packs a potent punch, about 19 percent THC. Featuring a fresh and cool lemon and pine flavor profile, Critical Jack also offers a smooth toke and medicinal benefits.

A sativa-dominant hybrid, SnowDawg is an uplifting, almost euphoric strain that gives consumers energy, positivity, and creativity. Featuring a complex aroma described as softly sweet yet earthy especially at first, it breaks down into a chemical and earthy citrus smell and taste.

Presidential Kush

Though Presidential Kush is a sativa dominant hybrid, consumers say that it brings on more of an indica-type feel, especially in the first 45 minutes or so. The second part of the high brings a lift in energy and ameliorative benefits that could help with mood and appetite stimulation.

Before grinding, it has an earthy, spicy, and skunky scent that evolves into a clean pine and lemon scent.

Purple Voodoo

Unlike other strains in the purple family, Purple Voodoo is a straight down the middle hybrid with both energizing and narcotic effects. With a scent suggesting incense, it turns spicy, sweet, and earthy in consumption. This strain provides an excellent combo of sedating and energizing effects.

Coming in at 75 percent sativa and 25 indica, Candyland is an excellent mood enhancer that may also help with muscle tension and relaxation. Its smell profile is described as sweet like candy, fruity, fuel-y and earthy.

Chocolate Chunk

Musky to the nose with sweet and herby overtones upon grinding, this potent indica (believed to be 100 percent) offers a warm and relaxing body feel. Chocolate Chunk invites a strong sense of calm and relaxation that won’t take you all the way to couch lock.

For those of you wishing to skip the high and evoke the anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory qualities of the non-intoxicating cannabinoid CBD, this is the strain for you. ACDC smells like lemon and cherries before grinding, then converts to a woodsy smoke that keeps the sweetness of the cherries.

Barney’s Red Diesel

If you’re looking for an indica-dominant hybrid that makes you feel warm and cozy (if not a little bit spacey), Barney’s Red Diesel is the strain for you. Described as a mix of both sour and sweet to the nose, it would make an excellent strain for medical cannabis patients because of its overall effects and potency.

King’s Kush

Hailing from the OG Kush and Grape Ape line, the OG comes out strongest in this indica-dominant hybrid. With a sweet and spicy aroma and incense-heavy sweetness, the effects of King’s Kush range from relaxation to mood elevation and mental clarity.

Outer Space

Though this sativa-dominant hybrid is not appealing at first whiff – some say it smells both putrid and fecal – Outer Space gets less pungent with grinding and becomes citrusy and floral upon consumption. Once you get past the smell expect a full-blown sativa experience that is energizing and focused.
